# Environmental Sites

> Find federally regulated facilities, toxic release reporters and Superfund sites by point, ZIP code or county.

Returns environmental sites and compliance records from the US Environmental Protection Agency near a point or in a ZIP code or county. Includes facility counts, violations, five-year penalties and up to 25 facilities ordered by noncompliance, Superfund status or toxic releases and transfers. Brownfields are not covered.

## Authentication

Requires x402 payment in the `payment-signature` header.

## Request Body

**longitude** `number`

Point longitude in decimal degrees, west negative; give latitude too. From -180 to 180.

**radius\_km** `number`

Point search radius in kilometres, default 2; only with latitude and longitude. From 0.2 to 16.

Most quarters in noncompliance, Superfund sites, or largest combined on-site toxic releases and off-site transfers first. One of `noncompliance`, `superfund`, `toxic_releases`. Defaults to `"noncompliance"`.

**limit** `integer`

How many facilities to return. From 1 to 25. Defaults to `10`.

## Notes

* Each program count is a count of facilities; a facility can be in several programs. Superfund sites are listed but not counted in `by_program`: the source gives no Superfund total.
* Use `order: superfund` to bring Superfund sites first, or `order: toxic_releases` for the largest combined on-site releases and off-site transfers. Brownfields are not covered.
* A county search matches recorded county or coordinates, so a few facilities may be recorded under another county name.
* An area too large for one search is refused: use a point with a smaller radius or a ZIP code.
* Counts and total penalties cover every matched facility, including those beyond `limit`. Programs refresh weekly; current state and five-year enforcement counts are provided, with no source history.
* Results return inline. The finished job stays available at `/v1/requests/{request_id}`
