# Energy Efficiency Certification

> Check whether a product model is on the current ENERGY STAR certified list, with its published efficiency figures.

Returns whether a product model is on the US Environmental Protection Agency’s current ENERGY STAR certified list, by category and brand, model number, UPC or ENERGY STAR ID, with the certification date, markets and the list’s published efficiency figures. all\_categories searches every category but returns no figures. Delisted models are not shown.

## Authentication

Requires x402 payment in the `payment-signature` header.

## Request Body

**category** `string` *required*

The product category; all\_categories answers whether a model is certified in any category but returns no efficiency figures. One of `refrigerators`, `freezers`, `dishwashers`, `clothes_washers`, `clothes_dryers`, `combination_washer_dryers`, `room_air_conditioners`, `dehumidifiers`, `room_air_cleaners`, `electric_cooking_products`, `televisions`, `displays`, `computers`, `imaging_equipment`, `telephones`, `smart_thermostats`, `ceiling_fans`, `ventilating_fans`, `downlights`, `water_heaters`, `heat_pumps`, `geothermal_heat_pumps`, `furnaces`, `boilers`, `pool_pumps`, `ev_chargers`, `storm_windows`, `commercial_refrigerators_freezers`, `commercial_dishwashers`, `commercial_ice_machines`, `commercial_ovens`, `commercial_fryers`, `commercial_griddles`, `commercial_steam_cookers`, `commercial_hot_food_holding_cabinets`, `commercial_coffee_brewers`, `water_coolers`, `commercial_water_heaters`, `commercial_boilers`, `all_categories`.

**brand** `string`

The brand, matched case-insensitively as part of the listed brand name. 2 to 60 characters.

**model\_number** `string`

The model number, matched as part of the listed model number or additional model designations. Listed model numbers can use \* for a variable character, so give the fixed leading part when an exact number does not match. 2 to 40 characters.

**upc** `string`

A UPC, matched as part of the listed UPCs.

**energy\_star\_id** `string`

The ENERGY STAR Unique ID.

**limit** `integer`

The most models to return. From 1 to 25. Defaults to `10`.

Where the answer came from and when

**data.evidence.source** `string`

The public body the data comes from. Always `US Environmental Protection Agency (ENERGY STAR)`.

**data.evidence.source\_kind** `string`

`public` when the data comes from a public body, `commercial` otherwise

**data.evidence.retrieved\_at** `string`

When the lookup was made, as an ISO 8601 UTC time

**data.evidence.as\_of** `string | null`

When the source says the fact was last updated, or `null` when the source gives no date

Nested under `data.result`.

**data.result.category** `string`

The category searched.

**data.result.certified** `boolean`

Whether at least one currently certified model matched.

**data.result.truncated** `boolean`

Whether more models matched than limit.

**data.result.models** `object[]`

Matching currently certified models, newest certification first.

**data.result.models\[].energy\_star\_id** `string`

The ENERGY STAR Unique ID.

**data.result.models\[].brand** `string | null`

The brand. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.models\[].model\_name** `string | null`

The model name. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.models\[].model\_number** `string | null`

The listed model number; \* stands for a variable character. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.models\[].additional\_models** `string | null`

Additional model designations covered by the listing. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.models\[].partner** `string | null`

The ENERGY STAR partner that certified the model. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.models\[].product\_category** `string | null`

The product category of the list. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.models\[].product\_type** `string | null`

The product type within the category. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.models\[].upcs** `string[]`

The listed UPCs.

**data.result.models\[].date\_certified** `string | null`

When the model was certified. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.models\[].date\_available** `string | null`

When the model became available on the market. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.models\[].markets** `string[]`

The markets the certification covers.

**data.result.models\[].most\_efficient** `boolean | null`

Whether the model meets the Most Efficient criteria; null when the list does not say.

**data.result.models\[].figures** `object[]`

The list’s published efficiency figures and other columns; empty for all\_categories.

**data.result.models\[].figures\[].field** `string`

The source column name.

**data.result.models\[].figures\[].value** `string`

The published value.

**data.result.models\[].figures\[].number** `number | null`

The value as a number when the column is numeric. `null` when the source gives no value.

## Notes

* Supply at least one of brand, model\_number, upc or energy\_star\_id.
* Brand and model number match as parts of the listed values; model numbers also match the additional model designations.
* Listed model numbers may use \* for a variable character, so give the fixed leading part when an exact number does not match.
* Figures are the list’s own columns, so they differ by category.
* Not found means the model is not on the current list (never certified, or delisted), not that it failed a test.
* heat\_pumps matches the outdoor unit’s brand.
* The lists refresh daily.
* The list shows certification status and is not an endorsement.
* Results return inline. The finished job stays available at `/v1/requests/{request_id}`
