# Regulatory Dockets

> Find the US federal agency dockets, rulemaking and nonrulemaking, that match search words.

Searches the dockets of US federal agencies on the federal regulations portal, newest change first: docket id, agency, type (rulemaking or nonrulemaking), title, the date of its last change and a link. A docket is the file a rule or notice and its public comments sit in; this returns the dockets, not the documents or comments inside them.

## Authentication

Requires x402 payment in the `payment-signature` header.

## Request Body

**query** `string` *required*

Search words, for example unmanned aircraft. 2 to 200 characters.

**agency** `string`

Only dockets of this agency, as its acronym, for example FAA or EPA. 2 to 10 characters. Use the agency acronym, letters and digits only.

**docket\_type** `string`

Only dockets of this kind. One of `rulemaking`, `nonrulemaking`.

**limit** `integer`

The most dockets to return. From 1 to 25. Defaults to `10`.

## Response (200 OK)

Top-level envelope: `success` (boolean) and `data` (object). All fields below are nested under `data`.

**data.request\_id** `string`

Durable job ID for audit and lookup

**data.status** `string`

Job status: `completed`

**data.tool** `string`

Always `record_dockets_find`

**data.result** `object`

The answer, described under Result below

**data.evidence** `object`

Where the answer came from and when

**data.evidence.source** `string`

The public body the data comes from. Always `US General Services Administration`.

**data.evidence.source\_kind** `string`

`public` when the data comes from a public body, `commercial` otherwise

**data.evidence.retrieved\_at** `string`

When the lookup was made, as an ISO 8601 UTC time

**data.evidence.as\_of** `string | null`

When the source says the fact was last updated, or `null` when the source gives no date

## Result

Nested under `data.result`.

**data.result.total** `number`

How many dockets matched, including any beyond `limit`.

**data.result.dockets** `object[]`

The matching dockets, newest change first.

**data.result.dockets\[].docket\_id** `string | null`

The docket id, for example FAA-2019-1100. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.dockets\[].agency** `string | null`

The acronym of the agency that keeps the docket. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.dockets\[].type** `string | null`

Rulemaking or Nonrulemaking. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.dockets\[].title** `string | null`

The docket title. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.dockets\[].last\_modified\_at** `string | null`

When the docket last changed, ISO 8601. `null` when the source gives no value.

**data.result.dockets\[].url** `string | null`

The docket on the federal regulations portal. `null` when the source gives no value.

## Notes

* Optionally narrow by `agency` (its acronym, for example FAA or EPA) and by `docket_type` (rulemaking or nonrulemaking).
* Use it to find where an agency keeps the record of a rule and its public comments; use the Federal Register documents tool for the published rules and notices themselves.
* `total` is how many dockets matched, including any beyond `limit`, and is 0 when none did.
* Each docket links to its page on the portal, which lists its documents and comments.
* Results return inline. The finished job stays available at `/v1/requests/{request_id}`
