Return the flood hazard zone published on the national flood hazard map at a point: the zone, its subtype, whether the point is in a special flood hazard area, the base flood elevation when one is stated, and the map the answer comes from. Give coordinates, not an address; Place Resolve returns the coordinates for an address. Covers US areas with a published flood hazard map.
mapped is false when no map covers the point. When more than one zone covers the point, the first is returned and overlapping_zones gives the count. This is a screening aid, not a flood determination: do not use it as the basis for lending or insurance decisions.
Authentication
Requires x402 payment in thepayment-signature header.
Request Body
number
required
Latitude in decimal degrees, 17 to 72. From 17 to 72.
number
required
Longitude in decimal degrees, -180 to -64. From -180 to -64.
Response (200 OK)
Top-level envelope:success (boolean) and data (object). All fields below are nested under data.
string
Durable job ID for audit and lookup
string
Job status:
completedstring
Always
place_flood_zoneobject
The answer, described under Result below
object
Where the answer came from and when
string
The public body the data comes from. Always
US Federal Emergency Management Agency.string
public when the data comes from a public body, commercial otherwisestring
When the lookup was made, as an ISO 8601 UTC time
string
When the source says the fact was last updated, or
null when the source gives no dateResult
Nested underdata.result.
boolean
True when a published flood hazard map covers the point.
string
Flood hazard zone, e.g. X, AE or VE.
null when the source gives no value.string
Zone subtype, e.g. AREA OF MINIMAL FLOOD HAZARD.
null when the source gives no value.boolean
True when the point is in a special flood hazard area.
null when the source gives no value.number
Base flood elevation in feet, null when none is stated.
string
Identifier of the flood map the zone comes from.
null when the source gives no value.integer
Number of zones the point falls in, present only when more than one. The zone reported is then the special flood hazard area, if any of them is one.
